We're Jonathan and Lanita, and we're so glad you're here!
As parents of five children, we know that raising a family is one of life's greatest blessings—and one of its greatest responsibilities. We also know that in the middle of busy schedules, everyday challenges, and all the beautiful chaos of family life, intentionally nurturing our children's faith can sometimes feel overwhelming.
Jonathan has served as a pastor for over 20 years, and Lanita has served in children's ministry for over 20 years. Through our years of ministry, homeschooling, and raising our own children, we've developed a deep passion for helping families build Christ-centered homes and raise children who know, love, and follow Jesus.
Our Heart for Homegrown Disciples
Our heart for Homegrown Disciples grew from a desire we shared as parents: to find meaningful, Christ-centered resources that would help our own children grow deep in their faith.
As we searched for devotionals and Bible study materials to use with our children, we often found ourselves longing for something more—resources that went beyond the basics and truly engaged both parents and children in God's Word. We wanted materials that were engaging and accessible for families, while still rich in biblical truth and theology. We desired resources that would challenge us as parents, encourage thoughtful conversations with our children, and help our entire family continue to grow in our faith.
That desire became even more personal as we homeschooled our children. Lanita felt a growing tug to begin creating homeschool aids for her own family—resources that would support their learning while keeping God's Word at the center. What began as a desire to meet the needs of our own home grew into a bigger vision: to create and share resources that could encourage and equip other families, too.
Homegrown Disciples was created to help parents confidently disciple their children through simple, meaningful, hands-on resources grounded in God's Word.
We believe discipleship doesn't have to be complicated or confined to Sunday mornings. It happens in the conversations around the dinner table, the prayers before bed, the questions asked along the way, and the everyday moments when we point our children's hearts toward Jesus.
Our desire is to provide resources that are both approachable and rich in biblical truth—helping families move beyond simply learning about God to truly knowing Him, understanding His Word, and growing in their relationship with Him.
Rooted in God's Word
The heart behind Homegrown Disciples is rooted in Deuteronomy 6:5–9, where God calls His people to love Him wholeheartedly and faithfully teach His commands to their children throughout everyday life.
We love the picture this passage gives us of faith being woven into the rhythms of our homes—as we sit together, walk along the way, lie down, and rise.
That's the kind of discipleship we want to encourage: a faith that isn't simply taught, but lived out and nurtured day by day. We want to help parents make God's Word a natural and meaningful part of family life, cultivating hearts that love Him and lives that are rooted in His truth.
